Past event: New Writing Platform: Bush Theatre

Central Saint Martins holds New Writing Platform in partnership with the Bush Theatre

The new MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins is delighted to announce the fourth event in their New Writing Platform series.

The fourth New Writing Platform event will be run in partnership with the Bush Theatre and will be on the future of writing inspired by real life issues and politics.

The event will include a showing of MA Dramatic Writing students’ work, which has been inspired by the Bush Theatre’s forthcoming production The Invisible.

The showing will be followed by an In Conversation event with Bush Theatre Associate Director Omar Elerian and Bush Theatre producer Sophie Watson on The Invisible and the future of writing inspired by real life issues and politics, which will be chaired by MA Dramatic Writing Course Leader Jennifer Tuckett.

The event will be from 6.30pm – 8pm on the 19th June in the Platform Theatre at Central Saint Martins.

THE INVISIBLE is a new play by Rebecca Lenkiewicz about the recent changes to the provision of legal aid. Based on interviews with real people at all levels of the British justice system, this play aims to tell the stories of those ordinary people affected by the cuts and to examine how they are driving ever deeper cracks into the fabric of our society. With cuts currently totalling £350m, the reforms to the legal aid system are arguably one of the biggest threats to human rights in Britain today.

MA Dramatic Writing Course Leader Jennifer Tuckett said: “We are delighted to be working with the Bush Theatre on our next New Writing Platform, our new series dedicated to exploring new ideas going on in dramatic writing in partnership with the industry”.

Madani Younis, Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre, said: “It’s vital that theatre addresses the world around it. It’s something we always try to encourage writers to do at the Bush, and The Invisible is a perfect example of that. Omar and Sophie have been a big part of bringing The Invisible to our stage, and I’m sure this will be a thought-provoking event”

Please note: Free tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
